STARDAY & STARDAY CUSTOM 45RPM Price & Identification Guide Vol 1.
This hit my doormat about two weeks ago and I've just managed to find time to look at it, what with work and looking after my Ma-In-Law.
Starday is, like Fortune Records, a very collectable label and the interest in then have spawned various books, articles and CD's/LP's over the years. Christian Scott's book (Vol 1) encompasses every issue on Starday Main Series and the EP's and the Starday Customs that appear on the Starday Logo. Informative introduction and some detailed notes are listed against some of the releases. A ton of label shots in the back section of the book as well. Whereas the Starday label has been extensively covered by Nathan Gibson in his astonishing "The Starday Story" - this is more a guide to what was released, rather than a history of the label. It's also a price guide. I've always been on the fence regarding price guides ever since the Don Kirsch book back in the very early 80's - but with the abundance of data on the internet regarding how much records are being sold for, Mr. Scott has done pretty well with many of the prices and obviously, he's spent a lot of time comparing prices via ebay/record lists etc. A pretty impressive endeavour!
Volume Two will be the complete list of known Starday Customs from 500 -1186 with values - which is due out in Sept. He has supplied me with at least 3 records which I have had gaps on for years so he's obviously put a lot of time, thought and effort into it. This is due out around September 2025.
